Crafting Fail

Threading a Bobbin: An Unexpected Journey

Every once in a while I will have a funny or epic fail. This past week, I experienced a pretty epic fail that I think most sewing enthusiasts can relate to on some level. Threading a bobbin is something that is typically relatively easy to do no matter what sewing machine you have, right? However, last weekend I went to wind a new bobbin with a new color thread and it did not work as expected.

Here’s what happened: Somehow while actively winding the bobbin, the bobbin became welded to the bobbin pin holding it in place. Don’t ask me how it happened—it was one of those moments that defy explanation and leave you puzzled and frustrated. The bobbin was so stuck that even employing the use of a vise and pliers couldn’t make it budge, an ordeal that left me both amused and baffled at the rugged stubbornness of a simple sewing component.

Thankfully, there’s usually a silver lining to such mishaps. The nice people at Leather Machine Co promptly understood my predicament and sent me a new bobbin winder to install on my machine. The customer service was exemplary, turning what could have been a frustrating ordeal into a story about excellent service and support.

I am now back up and running, with my sewing machine functioning smoothly once again. This experience was a reminder that even in the seemingly simple tasks, unexpected challenges can arise, and it’s important to maintain a sense of humor and gratitude. Especially grateful for the support of good customer service, I’m reminded of just how essential those elements are in our everyday adventures and misadventures alike. Here’s to more sewing, fewer mishaps, and always finding a way to laugh and learn from each situation!
